Turns Out it Can.
And now for something completely different.
A while back, an experiment was performed at Princeton that proved that our thoughts can actually affect electronic devices.
Sound crazy?
It turns out there’s solid evidence to support the claim, and scientists are just starting to unravel the complex world of quantum mechanics.
Now I’m not going to attempt to explain quantum mechanics in my weekly newsletter, but suffice it to say; the field is absolutely fascinating and reveals some amazing truths about the universe we live in. It’s definitely worth taking some time to dig into.
So anyway, back to the experiment –
They started by putting a robot that was programmed to move around completely randomly into an enclosed rectangular area. It would move forward a bit, pick a random degree to turn, make the turn, then travel forward some more and repeat the process. The pattern of travel was indeed completely random.
Then, they took some baby chicks which had not yet imprinted on a “mother”, and put them into an enclosure adjacent to the robot’s area, where they could watch the robot moving around.
The chicks immediately became fascinated with this randomly moving robot on the other side of the glass divider – they could see it, but they couldn’t physically interact with it at all.
So now there’s a bunch of baby chicks who all think this robot is their mother, sitting there staring at it.
Hang in there – I’m getting to the kicker…
After introducing the chicks, the random pattern of the robot was actually altered – it was no longer random at all. The robot now spent an inordinate amount of time nearest the baby chicks. Despite being coded to move completely randomly, it was actually being affected by the baby chicks.
Say what?!
It’s true. Check out this visual representation of the robot’s trail before and after the chicks were added:
This is absolutely mind-blowing!
Since this experiment, countless more have been done to analyze the “quantum field” as it’s called – that is, the effect THOUGHTS have on our environment.
There is now overwhelming evidence to support the fact that our thoughts really do affect the physical world around us – including, but not limited to, our electronics.
Ever notice how some people “just don’t get along” with their electronics? Ever notice how some people seem to make a computer work just by walking in the room. I sure have – time and time again.
Chalk it up to superstition if you will – but there’s now some solid science to back up the superstition.
While the implications of quantum field theory are far reaching to say the least, this is a tech newsletter, so I won’t get into it further than to say; be nice to your electronics and just maybe, they’ll be nice back. ☺
Mind your brain waves – they do indeed shape your world!
